Intership signs MoU with CMMI

Collaboration for strong bonds for the future

On 2nd October 2020, Intership Navigation and the Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will enable the two organisations to collaborate and build strong bonds for the future. The MoU signing took place at the Intership offices in Limassol.

Commenting on the MOU,  Dieter Rohdenburg, CEO of Intership stated: “We are very pleased to be signing this MoU which will allow us to work closely with CMMI – an Institution deeply rooted in our industry – in addressing the major challenges of decarbonizing shipping, digital transformation and finding ways to attract bright young people to join our ships and our companies”.

The CEO of CMMI, Zacharias Siokouros expressed his enthusiasm over the signing of the MoU with Intership Navigation. “We remain committed to CMMI’s Mission to undertake Research and Innovation for the Blue Economy Driven by the Needs of Industry and Society, and this MOU will allow our scientists to engage with the industry in identifying and addressing these needs”.

Intership Navigation Co. Ltd.

Intership Navigation Co. Ltd. was founded in 1988 principally as a ship-owning company. The company has since expanded into full management and currently manages a fleet of around 80 vessels. In addition, Intership partly manages more than 100 ships on a crew management basis and employs some 3,500 seafarers of various nationalities.

Intership co-ordinates its global operations with a network of technical support offices and has commercial and manning offices in Germany, Poland and the Philippines as well as an office in Greece operating under a separate DOC.
Through close links with commercial offices, Intership has direct access to industrial business partners.

The Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI)

CMMI, is an independent, international, scientific and business Centre of Excellence for Marine and Maritime Research and Innovation that aims to be driven by the needs of the industry and society in addressing the major challenges that the respective sectors face. CMMI, was established in 2019 following its selection for funding under the EU’s HORIZON 2020 Programme, Spreading Excellence and Widening Participation Call. After a three-year highly competitive evaluation process, among approximately 200 proposals at EU level, CMMI was awarded €30 million funding from the EU Commission and the Cyprus Government while significant commitments were made by partners and industry and academia stakeholders mainly as in-kind contributions.
